The Wiyot People

The proposed Wigi National Monument is on the unceded territory of the Wiyot People, which includes the Wiyot Tribe, Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria, and Blue Lake Rancheria. Wiyot People continue to be the working stewards of the lands, waterways, air, plants, and animals of their ancestral homelands which include the stretch of lands between Plhut Gasamuli, Little River, to Raski-yuwit, Bear River Ridge, since time immemorial. Wigi is the Wiyot name for Humboldt Bay in Soulatluk (Wiyot language).
